Help those who have suffered from the earthquake that struck our country, is the purpose of the 16 tons of food were delivered to 2 thousand families in the neediest sectors of Talcahuano in conjunction with Caritas, the Archdiocese of Concepción and the Chilean College Arab of Chiguayante.
The goal was ambitious:
to help 2 thousand families who lost everything during the earthquake
and tsunami that struck our country on 27 February. That's the goal that
motivated the nine directors of the Bethlehem 2000 Foundation to provide
resources to bear, in collaboration with Caritas, 16 tons of food to
the hills of Talcahuano, where people find themselves in very precarious
conditions and practical help has not arrived.
In a few days coordinated
the purchase and transfer of food-item, with roads in disrepair and the
reluctance of drivers to drive at night, no less. The next step was the
delivery of the 2 thousand boxes. For this, the College
Chigwell Arab Chilean decided its premises as a gathering place, in
addition to meeting student volunteers. To establish the areas
and people most in need, worked in coordination with the Archbishop of
Concepción. This identified areas
that would receive aid: Copihues, Nueva Los Lobos, Gaete y Libertad,
located in the hills of Talcahuano. Thanks to the land
provided by Caritas and the pastors of each place, they made lists of
families in a state of urgency, which directly and personally handed
them food, thus fulfilling the purposes of the directory Foundation.
"Not only was a matter of
sending aid, but should be delivered with a smile, a hug, a word of
encouragement," says Mario Nazzal, director of the Bethlehem 2000
Foundation and creator of the entire logistics process, who traveled Concepcion to personally
deliver the food with his wife, Jenny Larach, the president of the Corporación Cultural Colegio Chileno Árabe de Chiguayante, Emilio Gidi, its
directors, and Antonio Hanania Miriam Nazar, the head of school, Julio
Gomez, teachers and more 30 youths.
"Unfortunately, the moral
disaster that followed the earthquake, bringing aid vehicles amounted
to reach the entrance of the populations where they were assaulted by
the crowd," says the Rev.. Carlos Neira, of St.
Teresa of Avila parish in the Andes. So the aid was received
with great excitement by the people, through their houses and makeshift
tents in mid-air outdoors.
But one thing that most
impressed was the source of aid. As the sister tells
Lugina, who participated in the delivery of boxes, "when I saw the
Palestinian Foundation logo, I almost dropped the box thinking all he
suffered and is suffering the Palestinian people. View a generous and
caring delivery is admirable gesture of solidarity is the largest I have
seen in these days. "
